Climbing

Rob began climbing in 1993 while in his final year at school in Adelaide, South Australia. The experience ignited a passion that would continue 20 years later. After climbing extensively for 4 years while at university at places like Moonarie (South Australia), Mt Arapiles and the Grampians (Victoria), in 1999 Rob embarked on a 10-month world tour to the climbing meccas of Yosemite Valley (USA), the famous crags of Europe like Ceuse, Stanage, Verdon, Elbsandstein, Frankenjura and many areas around Switzerland and finally a visit to the Himalayas.

Rob began mountaineering while in Switzerland in 1999 and over the next 5 years would embark on more that 20 expeditions to the greater ranges of the world, Expedition list includes:

  • Patagonia in the South American Andes,(5 expeditions)
  • Nepalese and Tibetan Himalaya (7 expeditions),
  • Karakoram mountains of Pakistan (Broad Peak),
  • Mt Kenya and Kilimanjaro in Africa,
  • Denali, Ruth Gorge and Little Switzerland in Alaska (2 expeditions)
  • Cordillera Blanca range in Peru
  • Scottish winter climbing
  • Climbing in the European alps

Rob has also worked as a guide and instructor both in Australia and overseas since 2003: Trekking guiding in Nepal, high altitude guiding in Pakistan and instructing and guiding in Australia for corporate groups, TAFE, Universities and school groups.

Rob was also the President of the Climbing Club of South Australia for 10 years and the President of the South Australian Rock Climbing Education Association (SAREA) for 7 years.
